National Pet Day is dedicated to those pets who may not always get the companionship and attention pets deserve.
Those of us lucky enough to have pets in our lives know that isn’t a day that goes by without us being grateful that we have our animal friends for companionship. While loving our pets is something we do every day, today encourages helping out orphaned pet companions by bringing attention to their plight in shelters.
“Don’t shop! Adopt!” has become the holiday slogan. There are a number of reasons why animals end up in shelters, some are strays, some were given up by their owners who could no longer care for them and others were seized in legal actions. Today is a perfect day to encourage someone to adopt.
Maybe take prospective adopters to the local Dog park to see the fun.
