A Concrete Skate Plaza Built Around Choice
The Jackson County skate park brings a varied group of street-style features together on one open concrete surface at Mark Watson Park in Sylva, North Carolina.
Rather than directing riders along one fixed route, the layout leaves space to approach the rails, ledges, circular platform and bank from different directions. Individual features can be practised on their own or linked together across a longer run.
Low grind rails occupy the center of the plaza, while raised concrete ledges and a curved feature create additional options around the perimeter. The bank at the far end gives riders another point for turns, transitions and repeated approaches.
Completed for Jackson County in December 2025, the skate park was delivered by Bliss Products and Services in partnership with Spohn Ranch.
The arrangement gives riders room to develop their own lines rather than follow a prescribed circuit. A run might begin at the circular platform, continue through the central rails and finish at the bank, while another rider can use the ledges and curved feature as a separate practice area.
Open sightlines across the concrete pad make the different features easy to see, and the bench beside the adjoining path provides a place to watch the activity without interrupting the riding surface.

Across the skate plaza: A circular platform, low grind rails, concrete ledges, a curved feature, raised pads and a bank create several distinct areas for practising individual skills or combining features into longer runs.
Around the riding area: Maintained grass borders the concrete pad, with woodland behind the site and a bench positioned beside the nearby path.
The completed skate park gives Jackson County riders a dedicated outdoor space where the same features can be approached in different ways. The open layout allows room for repeated attempts, changes in direction and progression from one obstacle to the next.
Each part of the plaza has a clear role. The rails support grind practice, the ledges introduce different heights and edges, the circular platform creates a distinctive starting or turning point, and the bank anchors the far end of the riding area.
