Memorial Hospital Children’s Learning Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee wanted outdoor play that felt intentional. The site sits on a busy medical campus, so safety and visibility were the starting points. Bliss Products and Services worked with the center to shape several small play zones. Together they created spaces that fit neatly inside the fenced yard while still feeling open.

In the main area, young children explore climbers, decks, and slides sized for early childhood. These activities sit on poured in place rubber surfacing that offers firm footing and fall protection. The smooth surface also makes it easier to move strollers, trikes, and classroom carts. In addition, it keeps the playground looking clean and finished throughout the year. This Memorial Hospital Childrens Learning Center playground Chattanooga TN project focuses on early childhood design in a compact footprint.

Overhead, large fabric shade structures cover much of the equipment. As a result, decks and slides stay cooler on bright Tennessee afternoons. Staff have more comfortable places to stand and supervise. Children also gain extra time outside on days that might otherwise feel too hot.

A defined trike track is built directly into the surfacing. It gives children a clear loop to ride, run, and practice balance while staying inside the secure play yard. Along the edge of the track are low play events and small gathering spots. This layout lets teachers stand in one location and still talk with children using different parts of the playground.

Personal Note from Amanda Stacy:  What I like most about this project is how it changed the feel of the yard. On early visits the space felt open but unfinished, and it was hard to imagine toddlers using it with confidence. After the equipment, shade, and surfacing were installed, the area immediately began to work like an outdoor classroom.
 
Now you see children riding trikes, taking turns on the slides, and gathering under the shade with friends. Teachers can greet families at the fence and still keep eyes on every part of the playground. For me, it shows how a carefully planned early childhood space can soften a busy hospital campus and give young children a place that feels like their own.
