Myrtle Grove Elementary

Myrtle Grove Elementary in Miami-Dade County needed a playground that would stay comfortable during the school day and hold up under heavy daily use. Working with the school district, Patty Carruthers and Bliss Products and Services supplied bright composite play structures, swings, and poured in place rubber surfacing arranged under large fabric shade canopies. The colors tie into the campus while the surfacing graphics, including soccer themed circles, give students clear play zones and extra ways to move and play.

The layout separates younger and older student areas, keeps supervision sightlines open for teachers, and provides accessible routes across the play pad. Shade, surfacing, and equipment were all selected with South Florida sun, rain, and maintenance needs in mind so the space is easier to care for over time. The result is a cool, colorful playground that fits the Myrtle Grove campus and gives students a safe, reliable place to play every school day.

Personal Note:  What I like most about Myrtle Grove Elementary is how quickly the playground fills up once recess starts. You see younger students trying out the smaller slides, older students turning the surfacing circles into their own games, and teachers standing in the shade with clear views of every group. Watching that mix of color, movement, and supervision come together reminds me why we spend so much time on the details before anything is ordered.
Myrtle Grove is one of several campuses where I have helped the district refresh outdoor spaces with shade, surfacing, and age appropriate equipment. Each site looks a little different, but the goal stays the same: safe routes, simple upkeep, and spaces that feel good to use every school day. If your school is ready to rethink its playground or add shade and surfacing to what you already have, I would be glad to look at your site and talk through practical options.
