The Richardson Center needed to update the surfacing around an existing preschool playground on the Francis Marion University campus. Working through a challenging procurement process and an accelerated schedule, territory representative Neal Hamilton from Bliss Products and Services coordinated the removal of the worn turf and the installation of a new playground turf system over a single weekend so the Center could use its grant funds on time and reopen the space quickly.

The new synthetic turf immediately changed how the play yard looks and feels. The old surface and stone base were removed and hauled away, then replaced with a fresh playground turf system that delivers better fall protection, fewer trip hazards, and a clean edge where the play area meets the surrounding walks and lawn. Completing the work over the weekend meant the playground was ready when children returned and the school met the deadline for its grant funding.

Personal Note from Neal Hamilton:  This project was special to me because it focused on the youngest children on campus. When I first walked the site, we talked about how often the kids are outside and how important it is for them to have a soft, consistent surface underfoot. Coordinating the schedule so the work could be finished over a single weekend and still meet the grant deadline took some planning, but it was worth it. Seeing the playground ready for children again on Monday morning, with fresh turf in place and everything cleaned up, was a good reminder of why I enjoy this work.
Across South Carolina, many schools and early childhood centers face the same challenge as the Richardson Center for the Child. Surfacing wears out long before the rest of the playground, yet schedules, budgets, and purchasing rules can make upgrades feel complicated. In my work with Bliss Products and Services, I help directors, facility teams, and universities plan surfacing replacements that fit their timelines, coordinate experienced installation crews, and keep play spaces open and inviting for the children who rely on them.
