Bliss Products and Services (BPS) Playground Project Overview
Webster, Jackson County, NC

Project Inception and Development

The inspiration for this groundbreaking playground project began three years ago under the guidance of the then Jackson County Park and Rec Director, Rusty Ellis, who has since retired. Recognizing the community’s need for an inclusive and accessible play space, the initiative was carefully considered and planned. Last fall, with the appointment of the new director, Michael Hopkins, the project gained new momentum, pushing forward into the final stages of realization. Bliss Products and Services (BPS), led by Jeff Bliss, our North Carolina – West Representative has been at the forefront of this effort, providing expert consultation and high-quality play equipment to ensure the project meets its ambitious goals.

Design and Features

The primary focus of this playground project has been to create a space that is truly accessible to all children, regardless of their abilities. The design features minimal elevated play surfaces, a deliberate choice to make the playground as inclusive as possible. This ADA-compliant approach ensures that children with mobility challenges can participate in and enjoy the play experience fully.

The playground offers a diverse range of play elements designed to appeal to children of all ages and interests. From interactive play panels that stimulate cognitive development to ground-level play structures that encourage physical activity and social interaction, every aspect of the playground has been thoughtfully designed.

The equipment and layout encourage children to explore, learn, and play together in a safe and welcoming environment.

Multi-Use Shelter by Cedar Forest Products

In addition to the playground, the project includes a multi-use shelter provided by Cedar Forest Products (CFP). This versatile structure serves as both a picnic shelter and a concert pavilion, making it a valuable community asset. The shelter is designed to accommodate a variety of events and activities, from family picnics and community gatherings to live performances and outdoor concerts. Its inclusion enhances the park’s usability and provides a space for community engagement and entertainment.

Grand Opening Event

The completion of the playground and shelter marks a significant milestone for Jackson County and its residents. A grand opening event is planned to celebrate this achievement, with Jeff Bliss and representatives from BPS in attendance. The event will showcase the new playground and shelter, offering an opportunity for the community to explore the new facilities and experience the inclusive design firsthand.

This playground project represents a major step forward in creating accessible and enjoyable public spaces for all children. The collaboration between BPS, Jackson County Parks and Recreation, and CFP highlights a successful partnership dedicated to enhancing community life and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to play and grow.
